Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced the release of its latest AMD Instinct MI300X and MI300A accelerator chips for AI processing in data centers. The announcement was made by AMD CEO Lisa Su during the company’s data center event. Su also mentioned that she expects the MI300 to become AMD’s fastest-selling product, with projected sales of $1 billion.
Alongside the accelerator chips, AMD is introducing the AMD Ryzen 8040 Series processors, previously known as Hawk Point, which are designed for AI-based laptops. The company has also highlighted its NPU chips for AI processing and mentioned that millions of Ryzen-based AI PCs have already been shipped in 2023.

AMD is working on next-generation Ryzen processors, codenamed Strix Point, which will feature AMD XDNA 2 and NPU technologies for generative AI. These processors are expected to be available in 2024.
During the event, AMD showcased hardware from various partners, including Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lenovo, Meta, Microsoft, Oracle, and Supermicro. The company also announced ROCm 6, an open software ecosystem that combines next-gen hardware and software to deliver an eightfold increase in generational performance, power advancements in generative AI, and simplified deployment of AMD AI solutions.
