Helsinki, Finland-based artificial intelligence startup Silo AI has recently introduced Poro, a groundbreaking open source large language model (LLM) designed to enhance multilingual AI capabilities for European languages. Poro is the first model in a series of open source models developed by SiloGen, Silo AI’s generative AI division in collaboration with the University of Turku’s TurkuNLP research group. The main objective of Poro is to preserve digital sovereignty by capturing the cultural and linguistic value bases.
According to Peter Sarlin, CEO of Silo AI, “Ultimately, it’s about value creation, ensuring that not only European, but any company out there can create value, can create proprietary models that create value that stays within Europe and stays within that organization.”
