Data breaches have become a serious concern in recent years, with the number of incidents tripling between 2013 and 2022. In the past two years alone, 2.6 billion personal records have been exposed, and 2023 is predicted to set a new record year for data breaches. These alarming findings come from a recent report written by Professor Stuart E. Madnick of MIT and underwritten by Apple.
The report sheds light on a troubling trend in which attackers are becoming more skilled at finding and exploiting misconfigured clouds and leveraging unsecured end-to-end phone encryption. Ransomware attacks, in particular, continue to grow in popularity among attackers.
