Move AI, the UK-based company known for its smartphone app capable of generating 3D motion capture models, has announced that it has secured a $10 million investment in a seed round. This funding comes from notable investors such as Play Ventures, Warner Music Group, RKKVC, Level2 Ventures, and Animoca Brands.
Move AI’s markerless motion capture technology has the potential to revolutionize the traditional method of 3D motion capture used in various industries such as sports, film, TV, video games, and music videos. Instead of using specialized cameras and markers, Move AI’s app utilizes standard 2D videos to generate high-quality 3D motion capture models.
The support from Warner Music Group demonstrates the industry’s interest in Move AI’s technology for creating music videos and new music performance experiences. Move AI aims to democratize 3D animation by reducing the cost and accessibility barriers for creators.
Move AI’s iOS app requires users to position at least two smartphone cameras, with the option to use up to six cameras, around the subject. Additionally, they have an experimental mode that supports Android devices and other digital cameras. The company has recently changed its sign-up process, requiring new customers to be onboarded by a Move team member before gaining access to the app.
Move AI has also revealed its plans to launch a single-camera app called “Move One” in September 2023. The app is currently accepting applications for its invitation-only beta testing mode. The public launch is expected later this year.
This advancement in markerless motion capture technology has significant implications for the entertainment industry.
