Nearly 200 AI leaders, researchers, and data scientists have signed an open letter published by the ‘Responsible AI Community’ expressing their condemnation of Israel’s recent violence against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank. The letter also focuses on the use of AI-driven technologies in warmaking, stating that it aims to make the loss of human life more efficient and perpetuate biases against Palestinians within AI-enabled systems.
Tina Park, head of inclusive research and Design at the Partnership on AI, originally circulated the letter. The letter calls for a withdrawal of technology support to the Israeli government and an end to defense contracts with the Israeli government and military. It emphasizes that the current crisis is a reflection of the extensive violence enabled by the use of AI-driven technologies.
