OpenAI Names New Board of Directors Amid Leadership Changes

OpenAI, the leading generative AI company, has appointed a new board of directors, marking the end of a tumultuous two-week period of leadership changes. The board consists of three men: Bret Taylor, the chair of the board and the president and COO of Salesforce; Larry Summers, a former U.S. Treasury Secretary and a professor at Harvard University; and Adam D’Angelo, co-founder and CEO of Quora/Poe. Microsoft, a major investor in OpenAI, has also been included as a non-voting partner.

The previous board had abruptly voted to remove CEO Sam Altman due to concerns about his communication with the board. This decision sent shockwaves through the tech industry given OpenAI’s status as a pioneer in generative AI. However, after a period of instability, Altman was reinstated as CEO, and the new board has been appointed.
