Samsung and Google Cloud Partnership Brings Generative AI to Galaxy S24 Series

Samsung has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to integrate generative AI into the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series smartphones. This multi-year partnership aims to bring advanced generative AI capabilities to Samsung smartphone users around the world. The collaboration was unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California, where the Samsung Galaxy S24 series was introduced.

As part of the partnership, Samsung becomes the first Google Cloud partner to integrate Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud into its smartphone devices. Janghyun Yoon, corporate executive vice president at Samsung Electronics, expressed excitement about this collaboration, stating, “We’re thrilled that the Galaxy S24 series is the first smartphone equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI.”

Enhancing User Experience with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2

Gemini Pro is a multimodal AI system that allows users to seamlessly operate across various types of information, including text, code, images, and video. This technology enables users to leverage summarization features in Samsung-native applications like Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard, thereby enhancing the overall user experience. With Gemini Pro on Vertex AI, Samsung Galaxy S24 series users can benefit from critical Google Cloud features such as security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.

Additionally, the partnership introduces Imagen 2, Google’s text-to-image diffusion technology, to Samsung Galaxy S24 series users. Imagen 2 on Vertex AI enables safe and intuitive photo-editing capabilities, including Generative Edit 2 in the S24’s Gallery application.

This collaboration also offers Samsung the opportunity to test Gemini Ultra, Google’s largest model for highly complex tasks. It further employs Gemini Nano, an on-device Large Language Model (LLM) delivered as part of the Android 14 operating system, to enhance efficiency for on-device tasks.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the capabilities of the Gemini system, stating, “With Gemini, Samsung’s developers can leverage Google Cloud’s world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance, and flexibility to deliver safe, reliable, and engaging generative AI powered applications on Samsung smartphone devices.”

Galaxy AI: Transforming the User Experience

The Galaxy S24 series introduces Galaxy AI, which amplifies nearly every experience on these smartphones, from enabling barrier-free communication with intelligent text and call translations to maximizing creativity with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine.

Samsung’s President and Head of Mobile Experience Business, TM Roh, spoke about Galaxy AI, saying, “Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.”

Galaxy AI focuses on enhancing communication, offering features such as Live Translate2 for real-time voice and text translation of phone calls within the native app. The AI-powered Interpreter allows live conversations to be instantly translated on a split-screen view, facilitating seamless communication. Chat Assist helps perfect conversational tones, while AI built into Samsung Keyboard can translate messages in real-time in multiple languages.

Galaxy AI also enhances organization with features such as Note Assist in Samsung Notes, which includes AI-generated summaries and template creation. For voice recordings, Transcript Assist uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate recordings.

Furthermore, Galaxy AI revolutionizes search capabilities. Users can perform high-quality searches by circling, highlighting, scribbling on, or tapping anything on the Galaxy S24’s screen. Generative AI-powered overviews provide helpful information and context pulled from across the web, and users can ask more complex and nuanced questions.

ProVisual Engine: Transforming Image Capturing Abilities

Galaxy S24 series’s ProVisual Engine is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that transform image capturing abilities and maximize creative freedom. Features include the Quad Tele System for impressive optical zoom performance, Generative Edit for image background filling and subject adjustment, Instant Slow-mo for smoother slow-motion videos, and more.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, which provides advanced AI capabilities and improved performance efficiency. In all three models, adaptive refresh rates improve performance efficiency, and users have control over data processing for AI features through Advanced Intelligence settings.

In conclusion, the Samsung and Google Cloud partnership represents a significant advancement in technological offerings, allowing Samsung smartphone users to benefit from innovative features powered by Google Cloud’s advanced generative AI technologies. The Galaxy S24 series introduces Galaxy AI and the ProVisual Engine, transforming the user experience and opening up new possibilities.
